The 8D is Conn’s large bore professional symphony double horn, and is usually built from solid nickel silver in a Kruspe wrap style. This horn is the 8DRS variant, and has a bell, 1st branch, and leadpipe all of which are made from rose brass for a warmer, fuller tone. This horn also features a screw-bell configuration, so the bell is detachable for easy storage. The valves on this horn move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, t. Here are a few very small dings and pings as well as some areas of light, isolated pitting, etching, and scratching. The bell engraving reads: C. / CONN/ 8D/ Made in/ U. The minor imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wished for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. Omes with a new ProTec ProPac case, and a mouthpiece for play-testing purposes. How the horn plays. Full, dark and rich sound with a very smooth, even tone. All registers of the horn play smoothly across the range and speak well. The horn is open and responsive with a good dynamic range. The F and Bb side timbre and intonation match well.
