VERY RARE ANCIENT VIKING NORSE SILVER PENDANT WITH A FEMALE FIGURE/DEITY DRINKING FROM A HORN TERMINAL. Signs of wear according to age. 2 5 x 1 9 m m. Drinking horns with bronze terminals with ornamentations were highly valued during the Viking Age for their displaying status. The Vikings drank strong beer at festive occasions, together with the popular drink of mead. Mead was a sweet, fermented drink made from honey, water and spices. Wine made from grapes was also known of, but had to be imported, from France, for example. Provenance: From a Large London collection; previously acquired on the German ancient art market in 1990; its history traces back to Kristiansand, Norway.
