1890 John Heald Cornet Springfield MA with case Vintage Silver Brass Horn
This is a rare cornet made by John Heald of Springfield, MA. It has patents from 1884 and 1889 so this was made 1890 or later but before he started adding serial numbers so likely made in the 1890s. Comes with case, Bb tuning shank and Heald #3 mouthpiece. It appears well used as there is plating wear on the valve casings where the hand holds it and the mouthpiece has worn plating. This has his patented water key lever that enables a quick use while playing. All slides and valves are working but the valves are original and do have a little air loss with a pressure test; mainly valves 1 and 2. Still sounds great and plays well. There is one silver plated patch on the curved part of the bell that was well done and several other spots that look to have had minor repairs. Bore is 0.458″, bell is 4.75″, length is 12.5.
