Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. Here is a vintage (serial number E27875) Conn 6D double french horn made in 1964. This is one of the horns that were built in Conn’s famous Elkhart factory, and are considered to be superior to any horns that were built later. The horn is in good condition and plays very well. The valves move well with excellent compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are a few small dings and pings as well as some pitting, scratching, and etching throughout. The bell tail and flare have slightly more significant etching and scratching on the surface of the brass. The bell tail and throat also have some scarring from dent removal. There are a couple of brazed repairs on the bell throat near the bell engraving. The trigger valve cap has been replaced. The bell engraving reads:’C. ” The leadpipe has “6D stamped on the mouthpiece receiver. The minor flaws are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely “raw brass” patina over time. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn case, and a mouthpiece for play-testing purposes. How the horn plays. Full, rich and bright with a smooth, even tone. The F and Bb side timbre and intonation match well. The horn is open and responsive, playing with good accuracy and flexibility across the range. All registers of the horn speak well and play fluidly. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop. This item is in the category “Musical Instruments & Gear\Brass\French Horns”.
