Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. This is a vintage (serial number N55891) Conn 8DS double french horn. The 8D is Conn’s large bore professional symphony double horn, and is built from solid nickel silver in a Kruspe wrap style. This particular horn also features a screw-bell configuration, so the bell is detachable for easy storage. The ring has standard Alexander threads, so the bell can be interchanged if the player desires a slightly different sound. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few very small dings and pings as well as some areas of light, isolated, pitting, scratching, and etching throughout. The bell flare has the most significant pitting, etching, and scratching, especially on the inside. The bell engraving reads: C. The minor imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a brand new ProTec “ProPac” backpack style case, and a mouthpiece for play-testing purposes. How the horn plays. Full, warm and dark sound with a smooth, even tone. The horn is open and plays with good flexibility. All registers of the horn speak well, and the horn plays fluidly across all registers. The F and Bb side timbre and intonation match well once the horn is properly intonated i. The slides are pulled out the correct amount. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop. This item is in the category “Musical Instruments & Gear\Brass\French Horns”. The seller is “silver_brass_music” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States, Canada.
