Antique Bovine Horn Handle Ladies Cane Stick Hallmarked Silver 1929 by J. Dress cane features a smooth bovine horn handle with an engraved, hallmarked silver collar and a leather wrist strap. There is a silver collar. Walking stick maker for. Henry Howell & Co. Henry Howell & Co walking sticks was founded in 1832 and was originally based at 76 Aldersgate, London. Their canes are much sought after by. Today and are often identified by the distinctive Henry Howell Co badge or button. This is a small (7-10mm) brass disc inlaid into the wood of the shaft & stamped with the maker’s mark. Howell canes which pre-date the use of this marker can also be identified by the initials JH incised on either the ferrule or the collar. The Howell shop, established at 76 Aldersgate in London by John Howell, was highly regarded by Londoners. Among the high-end accessories offered by the business was a range of fashionable walking canes. After John’s wife, Sarah, died in 1851, the shop was jointly operated by John, his son Henry & daughter Amelia. A few years later. For sale is this. Handsome antique sterling silver and steel shoe horn. The repousse filled handle is hallmarked for London 1900, maker William Comyns and Sons. The chased handle has the usual devil masks and birds on it. The horn itself is stamped with the word’steel’. This solid shoe horn weighs about 156 grams in total and is about 10 inches in length. Condition: Good overall condition. The thick blade has developed a patina, but has very little pitting throughout and some small areas of oxidation near the guard. The blade also shows some mild scratching. The German silver guard is a bit loose, and shows some mild nicks and scratches. The large staghorn grip has some discoloration near the ends, and some mild scratching. The horse head pommel has a verdigris patina, and shows some mild scratching and a slight dent on the very top. The sheath shows some moderate staining and wear to the leather, but the leather remains supple. The coin silver tip and throat show some moderate tarnish, scratching, and a few small dents.
