This is a nice well built beginner show saddle or nice trail saddle with suede seat. The saddle is in good used condition. It does have some water spotting here and there and some minor scratches from normal use. The saddle is a more natural/light color (pictures show the color accurately). Vintage antique clothing button was produced in the 1800s. The central image is of a bird — it almost looks like a vulture — surrounded by branches and leaves. The button is made of some sort of horn or shell. It has been inlaid with silver, brass and colorful pieces of mother-of-pearl. Please refer to the ruler pictured in the image for the exact button size. Overall condition: Solid VG….. The main piece of silver inlay has buckled somewhat — most noticeable around the central portion of the bird. This was likely caused by the horn material shrinking with age, leaving the silver inlay piece too large for the opening. I would guess that this was not an uncommon problem on larger horn buttons with inlaid design. The button may have also tarnished a bit with age, or have slight surface wear — but there are no cracks, chips, or other major flaws in the horn. It is otherwise in very nice shape and it will display quite well. See attached photos for more detail on the condition — and a close-up of the buckled portion of the silver. My mom — Nancy Moran — was a longtime member of the National Button Society, plus was active in several local button clubs in New York. So please use the attached images to form your own opinions.
