Medieval gilt silver button heraldically decorated with a knightly horned great helm (with 3 dots decorating each horn) inside dotted circle. Hemispheric shape with a loop attached, front face slightly concave. Gold gilt visible especially on the front face. Size 12 mm diameter, 10 mm thickness including loop, weight 0.91 grams. Probably from the German or Austrian area. A horned great helm of a somehow similar type. (dated around 1350 AD) is kept at Kunsthistorisches Museum in Wien and belonged to Albert von Pranckh. These buttons made of precious metals and decorated with heraldic devices were fashionable among noblemen and knights around the middle of the 14. They were carefully made by jewelers not for everyday use but to decorate the ceremonial outfit of the high birth persons, and as such sometimes accompanied them in their tombs (fairly similar silver buttons but bearing a heraldic shield or letters were found inside one of the mid-14th century tombs from Arges princely church in Wallachia – google it). Obviously only a handful of buttons with a peculiar heraldic design was made upon request for a certain nobleman, this explains why these ornate buttons are rarely found today. An authentic and rare hand-crafted 19th century Gurkha Kukri knife featuring an highly ornate outer jeweled silver and an inner leather sheath protecting a finely decorated blade. The handle is made of buffalo horn (Yak) decorated with silver dots. The end of the handle is equipped with a bronze lion head. The leather sheath has two recesses that provide space for the small Chakmak & Karda blades. The measurements are as follows. Kukhri without Sheaths: 9; Outer. Sheath: 7.5″; Inner Sheath: 7″. This is a Georgian Solid Silver Scottish Snuff Mull Horn, this i believe to have been crafted c1800 making it around 218 years old, this isnt Hallmarked but that isnt unusual for these Scottish Snuff Horns of this Period but the Thistle on the Lid does test for Solid Silver but the Collar could be a Base Metal, this really is a Stunning Snuff Horn with the most Beautiful Colours on the Horn of Light Brown and Darker Brown, and the Horn has a lovely Curl at the End. It has a White Metal Mount to the Neck, with a nice Silver Thistle design on the Lid, the Lid does have a curve to it and the Cork to the underneath might not be Original and has wear to the Cork, the Hinge is Strong and the Lid closes nice and tight but because of the Curve in the Lid is not Flush and a little mis aligned and looks like there might be an old repair on the hinge to the collar, This would have been owned by someone Wealthy in the Georgian Period and this Snuff Horn would have meant something special in the Family Clan in Scotland, this really is an important piece of History, condition is good on the Horn and the Silver with tarnish on the Collar and on the Thistle, this would make a lovely gift.
