Conn 8DRS (8D with Red Brass Screw-Bell) Double French Horn withCase and Mpc
Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. This is a Conn 8DRS double french horn (serial number GE740034). The 8D is Conn’s large bore professional symphony double horn, and is usually built from solid nickel silver in a Kruspe wrap style. This horn is the 8DRS variant, and has a bell, 1st branch, and leadpipe all of which are made from red brass for a warmer, fuller tone. This horn also features a screw-bell configuration, so the bell is detachable for easy storage. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few very small dings and pings on the horn as well as a few areas of very light, isolated pitting, etching, and scratching on the inner wrap. The bell engraving reads: C. / CONN/ 8D/ MADE IN/ U. The minor imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a brand new ProTec “ProPac” backpack style case, and a mouthpiece for play-testing purposes. How the horn plays. Full, warm and dark sound with a smooth, even tone. The horn plays openly and with good flexibility. All registers of the horn speak well and play evenly across the breaks. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop.
