Engraved Elizabeth A Heselton 1850 Cow Horn Cup with Plated Collar & Handle
This is an antique cup that has been made from a piece of cow horn with a silver coloured metal top rim and handle. Really quite well made actually. The metal is marked but I’ve been told these may be “pseudo” silver marks. Makers mark followed by CROWN – CROSS CROSSLET -? Silver plated in my opinion. Two little rivets holding the strap handle at the top rim and a single rivet at the bottom of the handle. The front of the cup has been hand engraved with the name Elizabeth A. In collectable condition with normal signs of age and use wear. The horn has been warped slightly at the top. There are a few impact marks and what I can only assume is water damage on the base edge. A few dints in the metal ware and the top silver plated rim is gaping a little if you look from the top. Please see pictures for more details and visual confirmation of condition. 3 and 1/8 inches tall x just over 2 inch top rim dia. X 1 and 3/4 inch base rim dia. A very nice antique cow horn cup from Whitby Yorkshire. Scale is usually an English 1 penny coin which is 20mm in diameter which is just short of 7/8ths of an inch in diameter.
