Vintage C. G. Conn Satin Silver Baritone 3 Valve Horn Circa 1937 with Case
It has cosmetic issues, a very poor carrying case, and missing parts. We have appropriately categorized it as salvage or part and NOT working. A conscientious hobbyist may be able to restore it, ot a decorator may wish to utilize it as a wall hanging. Conn Satin Silver Baritone 3 Valve Horn Circa 1937 with Case. CONN, Satin Silver Baritone, circa 1937, with a carrying case. All of the photos should be your guide as to whether or not this instrument is right for you. Please ONLY rely on the photos, as well as the serial number for appropriate identification purposes. We are NOT in the musical instrument sales or repair business, nor are we musicians. At best, we can surf the net, and “cut and paste”. All of the photos are indeed… Please be certain to review them all as well as to peruse the 18 additional photos at the bottom of this page. Be further advised that this item was used as a public school band instrument, and cosmetically speaking, we have rated it to be in poor to fair condition. More appropriately, however, please be aware, it is a SALVAGE instrument, and being promoted and appropriately categorized as Parts or Not working. It perhaps can be recovered by a hobbyist and made to appear much better than what it is now. We understand this instrument is also sometimes referred to as a MARCHING BARITONE. This is a professional, full size, band instrument. While the fair cosmetic condition is reflective of its perhaps 80+ years of use, it perhaps is not really that bad when one considers how many band students used it in the course of 8 decades. Again, please know, it is being promoted as a salvage or parts instrument. We have been advised by a brass instrument repair technician that the designated serial number on the instrument, designates or is indicative that this instrument is most likely a very desirable and collectible Conn instrument. It has engravings on the bell, of the bust or head of a girl, the words “Made in Elkhart, Indiana”, and of course, the C. This vintage silver plated 3-valve CG Conn Baritone/Euphonium horn, surely is a very desirable and collectible instrument. Based on serial number (#336669), we have been told that this horn dates back to 1937. The Patent stamp is reading Patent Pending. This barritone has several small dents and a couple larger ones too… See all of our actual photos, and you decide. The silver plating appears to be original, and is mostly intact, though there is some tarnish and a few spots where it has worn thin. The bell does show a few dents that perhaps may be able to be easily straighted out. We do not know if this instrument has been previously repaired, but it doesn’t look too bad. We have tried them and it does appear that all valves move freely. We do not know how secure the solder points are. This offering does includes one hard carrying case that is in poor condition. If instrument will be transported regularly, an investment in a new case should be considered. While this instrument is being promoted herein as a rare collectible vintage instrument, with the potential there for total restoration, it would also (to a lesser degree of restoration) make a great first horn, or a great instrument for practice or pep-band. This silver colored C. Conn Baritone is one of the most popular Baritones on the market. This item was acquired with a large lot of surplus property from a Florida Public School District. The three valves are free and seem to be working as they should. The bell is removable. There is NO mouthpiece. There is a slight bend on the bell which appears that it might be easily straightened out, it just looks like it was bumped against something or dropped. Also present are plenty of multiple dings, scrapes, and scratches. We’ve priced it to make it gone. PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a working instrument and it will need extensive work by a brass instrument repair shop or a conscientious hobbyist to make it suitable for playing again. We’re presenting this vintage marching band instrument at a very reasonable price with the hope someone has the ability, or will have it fully and professionally restored, thus saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Cosmetically speaking, this instrument… Is in poor to fair condition. Please also note that there is NO mouthpiece being included. This instrument, with the addition of a mouthpiece, and the aforementioned needed repairs, will most likely make an ideal first, or starting instrument for a younger student, as the scratches, dings and dents are alreasy there! Likewise for the accomplished high school student, who’s looking for the ideal “beater” instrument to supplement his/her orchestra horn, when he/she is marching on the football field or traveling with it to other venues that have the potential of causing transit or rain damage to a very expensive or brand new instrument. Most of our school surplus items come to us without much of a description, nor any manuals of any kind. This item, as you can see from the 19 actual photos (please peruse them all) at both the top and bottom of this page, was an instrument used by many. Diligent care was apparently not part of the training of these students. As you can most likely appreciate, items of this nature, do in fact get used to their full potential in a public school system. Again, there are more than enough scratches, dings and dents, but amazingly, the bell does not look too bad (slight bend, nost likely easily straightened). The operating condition of this item, as well as others that we have acquired via school surplus, is almost always unknown. We try, where we can, to check out or operate most all of our items. Also, we must also declare ignorance of this particular instrument, and we can not be certain as to the completeness of this item. Again, we have not thoroughly checked out this particular item, through use, but have had it checked out by a professional brass instrument repair dealer. He has indicated it will need quite a lot of repair work to get it ready for marching band, for that reason, we have listed it, and must sell it AS IS. If the information is not in the listing, it is because we do not have it. If you can point us in the direction you wish us to go… We’ll check it for you, otherwise, a personal inspection is highly recommended for this item. CARRYING CASE: The case that is being included, ads new definition to the term “poor”. It has been falling apart for years, and today, we taped the ends closed to make sure it stayed closed. It will serve the purpose only to have a cushion around the instrument, while it is in transit to you. PLEASE NOTE: This item, as depicted in the photos to the right, is exactly what you will receive, and NO manual or any other accessories being included. If you don’t see it in the photos, you will not receive it. This should permit you to do your comparitive shopping. Please, however, do NOT rely on the content seen below as your only source. We are NOT a music store, nor a musician. Therefore, PLEASE check with your musical instrument dealer to get absolutely positive information as to the value of this instrument, or what can be expected in the way of maintenace after purchasing this used item.
