Yamaha YHR-662 Screw-Bell Double French Horn with Case and Mouthpiece
Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. This is a Yamaha YHR-662 double french horn (serial number 010173). This horn is in nice condition and plays very well. It is made from yellow brass with nickel silver accents. The valves move well with very good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few small dings and pings as well as a few areas of light, isolated etching, pitting, and scratching. There is a small patch on the F side third slide. The bell has been converted to screw bell with a newer heavyweight flare, which provides more power and a darker tone. The finger button rail has “YAMAHA” stamped on one side and “YHR-662″ and the serial number stamped on the other side. The minor imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely “raw brass” patina over time. Omes with a lightly used briefcase style screw bell case, and a mouthpiece for play-testing purposes. How the horn plays. Full, warm and dark sound with a smooth, colorful and even tone. All registers of the horn speak well and play with good flexibility. The horn is resonant and responsive, playing with good accuracy. The F and Bb side timbre and intonation match well.
