Large old conch shell from Tibet. The conch shell is very large, 35 cm :- It is about 30 years old. I bought this wonderful tibetan shell from a Tibetan in Giantse on my trip through Tibet. The conch shell is blown by Tibetan monks to begin a ceremony. In Buddhism, the shell symbolizes power and strength for new things to come; it banishes evil. It can be blown if you master it! A customer of mine played this and it sounds excellent compared to other conch horns. The beautiful conch shell is decorated with small genuine turquoises and is artfully set in a silver alloy. In the center of the conch there is a Kalachakra mandala like the one the Dalai Lama made in sand. The 8 Tibetan symbols of luck are depicted around the mandala. A wonderful piece of handiwork! Beautiful lotus ornaments were hammered into the silver! The silver fittings are richly decorated with genuine turquoises. Some turquoise and coral were incorporated into the silver. Wichita Band Instrument Company. Used Holton H-280 “Phil Farkas model” Double French Horn in Yellow Brass, Nickel-Silver Trim, Detachable Bell Flare; serial #664942. Holton horns offer an alternative in design that creates a great experience for the young or advanced players. The Farkas wrap offers independent tuning for convenience allowing the player to tune the Bb side of the horn separately from the F side. The H280 is a free-blowing horn with rich and resonant intonation and good projection. Model H280 is an excellent orchestral horn with dark sound and bright overtones. The original valves on this horn are still tight, with 99% of original lacquer. This one is a late H-280 that has never been school owned and has come to us in close to pristine original condition. Good player, not expensive! This one looks and plays like new! Wichita Band Instrument Company is a small musical instrument emporium located in the center of the USA. Worshipful Company of Masons silver mounted cow horn libation cup with seal c1750 Date : c1750 Period : Georgian Marks : None Origin : England Features : Silver mounted with engraved seal “The Ancients” Condition : Good Restoration : None Dimensions : 25cm x 12cm Weight : 357 grams. The Worshipful Company of Masons was formed in 1515 by the Alderman of the City of London. It ranks as number 30 in the list of Ancient Livery Companies of the City and exists to this day promoting the skills and craft of stone masons. This libation cup is a rare survivor and is crafted from a single cow horn mounted with unmarked silver (tested). The closed end carries an engraved seal showing the arms of the Masons Livery Company, three castles intersected by a chevron carrying a stonemasons’s compasses. The open end carries a mounted silver rim with simple engraved decoration. This “drinking horn” will date from the mid eighteenth century and were used as a ceremonial items. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.
