Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. Here is a vintage (serial number 941351) Conn 4D single french horn made in 1961. This is what is known as a “Pre-Letter” Elkhart Conn, meaning that there is no letter before the serial number. These earlier horns, built in Conn’s famous Elkhart factory, are considered to be superior to any horns that were built later. The horn is in good condition and plays very well. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are a few small dings and pings as well as areas of pitting, scratching, and etching throughout. The main tuning slide has a reinforcing patch added to the outside. The bell engraving reads: C. ” The leadpipe has “4D stamped on the mouthpiece receiver. The minor flaws are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely “raw brass” patina over time. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn case, and a mouthpiece for play-testing purposes. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop. This item is in the category “Musical Instruments & Gear\Brass\French Horns”. The seller is “silver_brass_music” and is located in this country: US.
