Estate find 15 inch Oe 1968 CAMARO steering wheel. It had a soft cover wrap on it for decades stuck to the hoop in places. I removed the wrap to check the hoop for cracks. I didnt see any cracks anywhere on the 15 inch outer hoop ring but possible I missed I actually used my reading glasses to inspect very close. There are normal hairline cracks at both ends of the 3 spokes. Like 1 hairline crack each end of the spokes. You should be able to view all cracks in the pictures. The center trim and horn button are in good driver quality. The horn button is attached but not springy. Im sure there is something missing inside there. Overall just a good steering for a minor restoration. Sand and paint for driver quality. I just washed it off a little in a shop sink with a sponge and dishwashing liquid and hot water! Medieval gilt silver button heraldically decorated with a knightly horned great helm (with 3 dots decorating each horn) inside dotted circle. Hemispheric shape with a loop attached, front face slightly concave. Gold gilt visible especially on the front face. Size 12 mm diameter, 10 mm thickness including loop, weight 0.91 grams. Probably from the German or Austrian area. A horned great helm of a somehow similar type. (dated around 1350 AD) is kept at Kunsthistorisches Museum in Wien and belonged to Albert von Pranckh. These buttons made of precious metals and decorated with heraldic devices were fashionable among noblemen and knights around the middle of the 14. They were carefully made by jewelers not for everyday use but to decorate the ceremonial outfit of the high birth persons, and as such sometimes accompanied them in their tombs (fairly similar silver buttons but bearing a heraldic shield or letters were found inside one of the mid-14th century tombs from Curtea de Arges princely church in Wallachia – google it). Obviously only a handful of buttons with a peculiar heraldic design was made upon request for a certain nobleman, this explains why these ornate buttons are rarely found today. Vintage antique clothing button was produced in the 1800s. The central image is of a bird — it almost looks like a vulture — surrounded by branches and leaves. The button is made of some sort of horn or shell. It has been inlaid with silver, brass and colorful pieces of mother-of-pearl. Please refer to the ruler pictured in the image for the exact button size. Overall condition: Solid VG….. The main piece of silver inlay has buckled somewhat — most noticeable around the central portion of the bird. This was likely caused by the horn material shrinking with age, leaving the silver inlay piece too large for the opening. I would guess that this was not an uncommon problem on larger horn buttons with inlaid design. The button may have also tarnished a bit with age, or have slight surface wear — but there are no cracks, chips, or other major flaws in the horn. It is otherwise in very nice shape and it will display quite well. See attached photos for more detail on the condition — and a close-up of the buckled portion of the silver.
