A Very Fine And Rare 18th Century Full Gilt Silver Mounted Ottoman Shamshir With Tughra And Owner’s Name In Its Original Scabbard. 31 and 1/2 inch deeply curved tightly forged beautiful wootz Damascus blade. Maidenhair pattern Damascus of extremely fine quality with no cold shuts. Elegant silver mounted hilt with classic Ottoman engraved silver cross guard with tughra and other silver stamps. Silver band encasing the steel tang engraved with diamonds. Bulbous horn grip scales with finger grooves. Work of art silver mounted Morocco leather covered wood scabbard. All mounts engraved ensuite and stamped with tughra and silver marks. Long silver chase with engraved owner’s name. Condition of the blade and hilt is fine to excellent. Horn grips are fine with only a few very minor chips close to the cross guard. Gilt silver scabbard mounts are fine with scattered marks expected on centuries old pure silver. Some strong traces of original gilding still present. Leather with minor losses and original braided silver wire binding. This is a far above average Ottoman shamshir and unlike most one sees it actually fits properly in its original scabbard. An impressive 40 inches overall. This pitcher is supposedly is made of an alloy of copper, nickel silver and zinc. It is beautifully hammered and a very attractive artistic decoration. It is in great shape, there are no dings aside from the hammering, LOL. There ate some very faint teeny tiny unnoticeable scratches and there is some metalwork at the very top at the back of the pitcher, it looks like it was just finish work. I’ll this in the pics. It is mounted with a curved blade that measures 6 1/2 inches in length by 1 7/8 inches at the widest which has some flaking to its plating and a small opening to the tip. The nicely designed silver hilt is intricately detailed and remains nice in its condition with just a few dings and frames a beautiful blond horn hilt that remains very healthy in its condition.
